D.

Inuits of the Bering Sea were isolated from contact with Europeans longer than were Aleuts or Inuits of the North Pacific and northern Alaska.

- Guess we need verb (isolated) instead of preposition phrase "in isolation" in A/C

- B changes meaning. Implies, Inuits were isolated from contact with Europeans longer than Inuits were isolated from contact with Inuits of the North....

E. without contacts is incorrect

Late, but D.

Isolated from and in isolation mean two completely different things. The former, and most appropriate for this sentence, implies that geography plays an important role.
