Claim: Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive.
Reason: It is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated.
When it comes to investing money on preservation and generation of culture, what should government consider is why should it invest in culture. Primarily, government wants to invest in culture in order to bring a nation on global stage so that it can further progress. Most of the culture in a nation usually resides in big cities, therefore government must support financially the big cities.
As it is known to everyone, Taj Mahal, a symbol of love of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan is located in Agra, a big city in India. Taj Mahal is a symbol of love in the world. Why shouldn’t government spend to preserve beauty of Taj Mahal which is getting deteriorated due to increasing pollution, acid rain etc. Also it includes dance academies, scientific institutions, museums etc. For example famous dance academies in India like Racck Dance academy, Nritayabhakti dance academy which teaches India’s famous dance form –classical dance etc. are located in Pune, Chennai etc. These big cities are thus putting efforts in preserving culture which is not possible in remote areas.
It can be argued that remote areas also give birth to talent. But such small cities are not ignored, instead talented people from these cities also need to go to big cities to fulfill their dreams and live their life to their potential. For example famous art colleges like Amity School of performing ARTS, Fergusson College, Bhavans College etc. are located in big cities of India like Delhi (Capital City), Mumbai and Pune. If students need to go to big cities to live their dreams, why should government invest in small cities. Hence it can be very well remarked that big cities not only preserve culture but also give birth to new culture.
And not to forget museums in a country are mostly situated in big cities. For example museums like National Museum, The Prince of Wales Museum, Indian Museum are all situated in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta etc. Museums represent a country’s culture in a very good way. In this scenario, investing in remote areas will prove to be detrimental. Government should, therefore, pay more attention towards big ciites.
Adding to this, it is very well known fact, when it comes to culture, science and developments in the field of science should not be ignored. DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organisation) which gives opportunity to do internship, thus contributing towards new talents and also it develops scientific technology for military is headquartered in Delhi, the capital city of India. And , if government pays attention to such an organization, India is sure to make progress by leaps and bounds.
Further, it can be argued it s difficult for government to invest in big cities because big sum of money would be required in big cities. But if government takes this investment as an investment in development of a nation, it will surely bolster a country’s economy which is very important for a country.
Contradicting to the facts, it can be said, majority of population lives in small cities but if they are not provided with opportunities to strive forward in life, a country’s culture will be lost forever. Moreover these days many talent hunt shows related to all field are organized in every possible area so that everyone gets best opportunities to explore their potential.
Finally, concluding, government should not completely ignore small cities because small cities do give birth to new talents. But to strengthen its economy and make a global stand, a nation’s government should surely invest in big cities because these big cities can only give chance to new talents and preserve a country’s culture. To make small cities
