Investment Management - Do companies recruit on campus? [#permalink] New post 16 Jul 2009, 13:13
IB recruiting is a very structuralized process and it seems "safe" since if you are a top candidate at a top school, you should end up getting recruited, and all the big banks recruit on campus at the top schools. But eventually I want to be on the buy-side in IM preferably at a HF. I was wondering if there was a direct route into this through on campus recruiting. I understand that prospects may contact companies on their own, but this seems like a crapshoot imo. Companies don't just hand out interviews or jobs like that.

IB also opens doors to buyside jobs in the future, so I may just bite the bullet and try to get that 90 hour/week job for the future.

Anyway, does anyone have any further insight or tips?

I'm also kind of wondering b/c this will help me structure my essays as well. From what I understand, IB is a more realistic goal coming out of a top school than starting as an analyst at a HF or MF out of school with no prior experience. So this would help with the perception by the adcom that I have some realistic goals.

If you are into fixed income and bonds, I believe that PIMCO recruits some candidates from Booth. I think it used to be on their website but I couldn't find it. And many of their execs got their MBA's from Unv. of Chicago. (I'm the lead fund accountant for 3 PIMCO funds so I looked into where they recruited last year when I was applying to bschool. That's the only reason I remember that tid-bit. However, I am NOT employed by PIMCO, if only ...)

American Century Investments comes to Kelley every so often looking for IM jobs I am told.

That's all I know without researching it more. You should be able to find a number of places that hire directly from Bschools. Hopefully that helps a little.

PIMCO, Fidelity, and some others come to campus at Kellogg. I didn't do IM recruiting so not sure at the whole list - but its definitely a decent sized list.
