Hi Alex,

If I am working for GS/MS, does it really matter if I am working in India or US/Europe? The reason I ask this is because you suggested somebody in this forum to take up GS/MS jobs in US/Europe/East Asia and not in India. Any specific reasons?

Just to make it clear: My question is with regards to your suggestion to a potential B-school applicant to take the IB jobs in US/Europe/East Asia rather than in India

What I meant are the offshoring operations in India that the IB folks in the US/Europe/East Asia use in offloading some of the analyst grunt work. The Indian offices are therefore lower on the food chain at these banks, and the adcoms know it too.

Thank you Alex for your reply. I did not know that!

I am planning to apply next year and was thinking of moving back to India post MBA. i was thinking of working for one of the big IBs (GS/MS) in India. Could you please tell me whether all the work done in India by GS/MS is the "offshoring work" and not the real stuff that happens in NY? In other words, will the quality of work I would do for GS/MS in India be lower than the quality of work my classmates from bschool would be taking up in say NY/London?

Is it same for indian M/B/B jobs too?
