Hi guys,

Apple is going to introduce iPad 2 on March 2. As a happy user of iPad, I have dilemma whether to buy or wait and it would be interesting to know what the most important thing could influence on your decision. For me, only one thing matters - Retina display. What do you think?

According to the rumor mill, the iPad 2 will have the same resolution as the original iPad (no retina display) but with a better processor and a little more RAM. (512 MB)

If this is true, then the iPad 2 will be a little underwhelming to me. (It sounds more like a refresh than a new innovative product that I was hoping for)

I really want a tablet but the ones currently out there (including the original iPad) are not worth it for me. Most of them have phone apps and are just bigger phones(sans camera and phone capabilities with the iPad). The tablet space is growing fast but we are still in the infant stages of the tablet design. The tablet iOS, for instance, is just a bigger iPod/iPhone version. Do I really want to deal with just a slab of icons without real multi-task capabilities?

Hopefully Google's Honeycomb won't disappoint but we are still about a half-a-year to a year before developers can fully make that into a stable star.

Steve Jobs is still sick so I don't believe he will be hosting the event. It will be very interesting to see if his replacement can show the same charisma and persuasion as Jobs did with every Apple product launch.

Usually Apple charges a premium for its products so this would need to be a great device spec-wise to convince me to buy one. (including better pixel density) I mean, you can make the viewing angles better but the iPad is mainly an individual device so why would I need better viewing angles? Hopefully, everyone is wrong but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

As an update, Jobs hosted the iPad 2 keynote today.

As expected, nothing major. (Although, from the keynote it sounded like they reinvented the wheel)

Again, the same screen pixel density kills it for me. Yes, the iPad will be lighter and faster, but I want to use my tablet as a portable media device so this just won't cut it for me.

The cover looks very interesting, but at $39? Sure, the iPad costs much more but the cover is basically a piece of plastic with magnets... (It's always the accessories that they get you with)

I'm waiting for a USB or no deal, I hate how Apple tries to keep you from sharing your files/music etc with any device not made by Apple

New iPad 2 got better processor, camera... it's lighter and has fancy magnet auto-aligning cover
Hm... 9 times faster graphics but why not Retina display.... costs? I would pay more for better display.

I'm not sure I would bet on that. Imagine the complaints from iPad 2 owners if iPad 3 comes out only 5-7 months later. It might be refreshed for LTE but probably nothing major.

For me, more memory and retina display would be nice. But the price is just too high - especially in Europe.

It has to be cost, stability or ability to create the display at that size. They clearly have the retina display as the objective, but scaling it up that big could easily kill battery (iphone gets destroyed by calls, maybe partly display but secondary) whereas the ipad needs to post pretty long life.

ipad3 will have the retina - if not, they have some series problems on screen support.

Its just a camera upgrade and shifting to different component suppliers. also its the apple battery/lifespan dance.

I think i'll get one.
