Is Haas focused on STEM folks? Humanities background? [#permalink] New post 28 Nov 2013, 09:50
I'm a career changer, 31 years old, am a teacher and a founder at an independent school that I helped open six years ago. I have a liberal-arts background and a master's in education. I've heard from a friend who is at Darden now that Haas is similar to MIT-- very focused on people from STEM backgrounds, not as much interest in a humanities person, and not as strong a recruiting profile into social-sector consulting. I want to work in McKinsey's social-sector side after graduation, and I'd be interested in Bridgespan as well. I can see myself doing other forms of consulting but that's the broad plan.

Does Haas seem like it could be a fit, or am I better at places like Kellogg/HBS/Darden where my humanities background would fit better?

No, Haas isn't overly focused on STEM people. It's in the Bay Area though. So, there are a lot of STEM people around. The part time program tends to have a lot more than the full time program. The adcom does try to assemble a balanced class though. So, someone with a non-STEM background would probably have a slightly easier time getting an admit.

HAAS has this program http://nonprofit.haas.berkeley.edu/soci ... solutions/

I think they get a lot of tech applicants due to location, but it seemed like they also have a lot of social impact initiatives.
