Is it worth applying for second rd admissions in B-School? [#permalink] New post 16 Aug 2004, 03:26
I recently started my GMAT preparation and will be attempting it, this coming NOV. By that time I will definetly be missing first round of admissions in B-Schools.

How different is second round admissions compared to first round one in B-Shools? in terms of
(i) No. of intakes
(ii) Chances of Financial aid

If chances are less to get through 2005 second round then I can look for 2006 first round one in order to save $$.

Guys, Can me provide your valuable suggestions on this dilemma?

Thanks

Most schools say that there is virtually no difference between the firstand second rounds. Schools know that more people apply in Round 2 than in Round 1 on average, and so they leave plenty of spots open. And you will get admitted well before most financialaid deadlines. So, if you feel that the time is right, go ahead and apply in Round 2 this year.

I concur that applying to the second round is still a good idea. However, note that some schools encourage students to apply as early as possible.

Duke:

"When should I apply for admission?

A: Given the competitive applicant pool, you are encouraged to apply as early in the admission cycle as possible. Candidates whose ability to enroll is dependent upon receiving merit-based aid should apply during round 1 or 2. Candidates who applied the previous year are strongly encouraged to reapply for admission during round 1."

UC Berkeley

"Should I apply for Round 1?
Applicants are encouraged to apply in the earliest round possible. Although there is no particular preference given to applications submitted in Round 1, applications are reviewed in the order received, and it is possible that many of the offers of admission will be made from Rounds 1 and 2."
