is MLIC GMAT prep the best? [#permalink] New post 30 May 2010, 15:19
Hi all,
I'm preparing for the GMAT and am looking for sincere advice on the best preps on the market. The parent company of MLIC ETS called Maple Leaf International Consulting Inc. has been touting itself as THE BEST GMAT (among other professional test preps) training outfit in the business.
What are your opinions and experiences?
Personally, I find it totally baffling that an organization that claims to be better than Kaplan, Princeton Review, Veritas, Manhattan, etc presents such a cluttered, shabby and unprofessional website.

Anyone actually buy into this hype first hand? Please someone tell me I’m wrong, and this MLIC GMAT prep is really the best thing that ever happened since sliced bread!
I would love to hear what you have to say.
Thanks much.

I am writing this as a warning to people searching for test prep materials. My experience with MLIC Turboprep is one that should not be repeated.

After paying $1400 and receiving confirmation that I had a place in the upcoming weekend class, I received a series of unorganized and incomprehensible pdf files with impertinent information and exercises. Then, I received an e-mail saying that I was going to be moved out of the class I signed up for and placed into another one. After explaining to them that this was not possible (I was going to be out of town), they said it was out of their hands and there was nothing they or I could do.

Reasonably, I was not happy. They said they would not offer a refund, and therefore I went to my credit card company to appeal the charges. After a long back-and-forth, I did not receive the services promised and was forced to pay for them anyway. As a customer, I have never been treated so disrespectfully, and I got the impression that it was not the first time MLIC has dealt with unhappy customers and disputed charges.

I warn you not to partake in this scam. I used other materials to prepare for the GRE, including Kaplan and PowerScore (which I was very pleased with) and I scored a 1450. Kaplan is challenging and good for those who plan on getting a high score, and PowerScore offers a great and affordable weekend course along with some good test strategies.

MLIC is a big fraud. I registered for GRE turbo prep in 2009, and maple leaf was quick to charge my credit card with #1450. On the day my GRE prep classes was to commence, I drove 1.5hrs to the hotel where the class was meant to hold. There was no representative of MLIC at the hotel and the hotel did not know about MLIC. I sat at the hotel for almost 3hrs, trying to get a hold of someone at MLIC new york and no one responded to my calls. Eventually someone picked one of the numbers I was calling, and he did not know anything about any class scheduled to hold in Houston. In all, the class was never scheduled or did it ever hold. After much trouble with MLIC, it took two month to get part refund of the money that had been charged to my account. MLIC kept $200 for a service that was never provided. I had made child care arrangements which I had fully paid for, for my daughter based on the GRE prep class I was supposed to attend with MLIC. MLIC never sent me a cancellation notice, no appologies, all MLIC rep I spoke with were totally rude and unprofessional untill they stopped taking my calls. I was close to missing the application deadline for the schools I was applying to, Had to make a private tutoring arrangemnt which cost me about $4000, otherwise I would have missed getting into school in 2009. MLIC is still holding on to my $200 dollars for a service that was never provided. Please be aware of MLIC, they are very fraudulent. I question the review they have on their website base on my experience. It is all false or arranged reviews. Be warned please, learn from my experience!!!
