Is my profile competitive? [#permalink] New post 28 Feb 2006, 13:33
Hi there -

I am looking to apply to INSEAD, Columbia, Oxford (Said) and Ivey for an accelerated MBA and was wondering if I have a chance given the profile below:

27 Year Old Male
Education:
BA (Double Major) in Economics & Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania
GPA 3.5
Graduated Cum Laude in 2001
GMAT: 660 (42 Q = 66%, 38 V = 85%) AWA 5.5
Work Experience:
Almost 5 years at a top Canadian Investment Bank (2 years in New York and 3 years in Toronto), in which time I have been promoted from Analyst to Associate. I will be able to get solid recommendations from senior Managing Directors within the firm.
Languages: English, Urdu
Other: League level squash and cricket player. Involved in numerous alumni roles for Penn, including interviewing undergraduate applicants. Involved in fundraining for earthquake victims in Pakistan.

I appreciate you taking the time to review this posting.

Thanks

A couple of things to think about:

* Why do you want an MBA? Do you want to stay in banking? Something else? Why do you want a European MBA?

* What have yo udone on your job that set you apart? How did you make a difference?

Your profile looks okay, but ideally you can show some leadership/impact from your work experience. Kudos for not asking me all about your GMAT score... I think you can get in with a 660, provided that you balance any weaknesses from the exam (quant) with other things in your app, like undergrad work or work experience. The facts that you were an econ major and are a banker should help to dispel most questions about your quant abilities.
