This question was answered a few days ago so for a more thorough answer do a quick search on the forum

1) (1.7)^2 = 3
2) sqrt n = integer means n will always be an integer (just try to plug in several #'s and you'll see this is true)

is n an integer ???
1) n^2 is an integer
2) sqrt of n is an integer

statement1: n^2 is an integer say n^2 is 2 , then n is not a integer
say n^2 is 4 , then n is a integer
so statement1 is not sufficient

statement2. sqrt of n is an integer say sqrt of n be 2 , then n = 4 which is a integer
say sqrt of n be 4 then n = 16 which is a integer

statement2 is sufficient
