sqrt(x-5)^2 will be equal to 5-x if 5 > x.

Statement 1:
Tells us x is -ve. So 5 > x. Sufficient so answer can be A or D.

Statement 2:
Tells us 5 > x so sufficient.

As both statements are sufficient, answer D.

you can reduce the Sqrt(x-5)^2 to |x-5|

|x-5|=5-x

1) says X<0

if thats the case YES..

2)
5-x>0 which means X<5

yes..
