Is the MSF right for me? [#permalink] New post 21 Nov 2011, 00:05
I graduated from a business undergrad (non-target) with a major in accounting and minor in econ. I had a mediocre 3.34 cgpa, and my major(accounting) gpa is 3.72 (with 4.0 in finance courses taken). I graduated in 2010, and have since worked a full year, with 4 months in project accounting, and 8 months in banking (MO/BO, analyst/trade support role). I have also passed the CFA L2 examination this past year, and am registered to sit for the L3 in 2012. My goal is to break into IB, ER, or Management Consulting, with the goal of getting into a top 15 B-School after 3-5 years of work experience. I recently relocated back to my home country, and have been contemplating whether I should look for work (not to mention my chances of getting into a FO role is slim, even MO would still be tough in this market). I am interested in re-branding myself by attending a Masters program that is a target for BB's, or even an MMS/MiM that is not as finance-targeted that would have OCR from MBB. I haven't taken the GMAT yet, but I have started reading the books, and am wondering if I would have adequate time for applications for Fall 2012. Schools I am interested in applying to at the moment are (in no particular order): WUSTL(Olin), Vandy (Owen), Duke MMS, MIT MFin, LSE MSc Finance, and LSE MSc Finance and Accounting. If you guys/gals could provide some input regarding the ranking for these programs, it would be greatly appreciated! Another question I have is whether graduates of these programs usually apply as FT or as Interns? I understand that I lack the relevant internships for a BB IBD role, which will work against me if I were to apply as a FT analyst, so I was wondering if I could still apply for Internships/SA positions post-grad. Any advice is welcomed, thanks in advance!
