let no. of members of club x=x
therefore
s1) no. of member of club x who are member of y also=.2x
not suff. as no other information abt y is given
s 2) no. of members of y=y----> bth=.3y

combining
.3y=.2x---->y=2x/3 hence x> Y

hence C

Hi

the above mentioned is very true.

Just for general questions.. always follow simpler approach initially, this might take u little long but will always assure you correct result.With practice this can be solved very quickly.

X ∩ Y = b

X U Y' = a

X' U Y = c

Now with the given values...find a b c....and desired result can be found very easily.

r u assuming that number of members in both the club are same?

we would need to equate 0.3y = 0.2x as number of members of both clubs would be same.

i.e. if 30% of Y = 12 ( assumed value) [then total members of Y is 40]. This 12 is equal to 20% of X and total members of X = 60

so C it will be

no. of members of club x is x and that of y is and is not same

those who are members of bth is same

hence .3y(no. of members of bth)=.2x(no. of members of bth)

Hi

One can word is this way as well

20% of X are in Y - X members in Y
30% of Y are in X - Y members in X

Since both of them represent dual membership, they can be equated to calculate ratio of members in X and Y

0.2X = 0.3Y
X/Y =3/2
Therefore X>Y

The # of people who are in both X and Y should be the same in (1) and (2). Since we know that these people represent a smaller % of the overall number of X members, the total number of people in X must be greater than the number of people in Y. Since we need both (1) and (2) to solve the problem, C is the answer.

We are not asked to find the # of members. The question asks: is the number of members of Club X greater than the number of members of Club Y ?
