Hello Avi2crackgmat,

We have to determine whether the product of 3p and 4 is greater than 20.
Let us consider 1)

It tells us that 5p>7.
Multiple both sides by 12/5. This would give us 12p>16.8. However, we cannot be sure of whether 12p>20 or not. It could equal to 21 or equal to 17 for all we know. Hence,INSUFFICIENT.

Let us consider statement 2).
It tells us that 3p-5>1
This implies that 3p>6. Therefore, 12p>24. Hence, we know for sure that 12p has to be greater than 20. Hence, SUFFICIENT.

Answer=B.
Hope this helps! Let me know in case of any further questions.

Is the product of 3p and 4 greater than 20?

Is 3p*4>20? --> is p>\frac{5}{3}?

(1) 5p > 7 --> p>\frac{7}{5}=\frac{21}{15}. The question asks whether p>\frac{5}{3}=\frac{25}{15}? Thus this statement is not sufficient.

(2) 3p − 5 > 1 --> p>2. Thus p>\frac{5}{3}=1.something. Sufficient.

Answer: B.

Reform question: 3p * 4 > 20? --> 3p > 5 ? --> p > 5/3(25/15)?

(1) 5p > 7 --> p > 7/5 --> p > 21/15 IS. Could be 27/15 or 22/15
(2) 3p-5>1 --> 3p>6 p>2 --> p > 5/3 SUFF.

B.
