Hello Avi2crackgmat,

We have to determine whether the product of 3p and 4 is greater than 20.
Let us consider 1)

It tells us that 5p>7.
Multiple both sides by 12/5. This would give us 12p>16.8. However, we cannot be sure of whether 12p>20 or not. It could equal to 21 or equal to 17 for all we know. Hence,INSUFFICIENT.

Let us consider statement 2).
It tells us that 3p-5>1
This implies that 3p>6. Therefore, 12p>24. Hence, we know for sure that 12p has to be greater than 20. Hence, SUFFICIENT.

Hope this helps! Let me know in case of any further questions.

Is the product of 3p and 4 greater than 20?

Is $$3p*4>20$$? --> is $$p>\frac{5}{3}$$?

(1) 5p > 7 --> $$p>\frac{7}{5}=\frac{21}{15}$$. The question asks whether $$p>\frac{5}{3}=\frac{25}{15}$$? Thus this statement is not sufficient.

(2) 3p − 5 > 1 --> $$p>2$$. Thus $$p>\frac{5}{3}=1.something$$. Sufficient.

P.S. Please read carefully and follow: rules-for-posting-please-read-this-before-posting-133935.html Pay attention to the rule #3: the name of a topic MUST be the first 40 characters (~the first two sentences) of the question. Than k you!

Reform question: 3p * 4 > 20? --> 3p > 5 ? --> p > 5/3(25/15)?

(1) 5p > 7 --> p > 7/5 --> p > 21/15 IS. Could be 27/15 or 22/15
(2) 3p-5>1 --> 3p>6 p>2 --> p > 5/3 SUFF.
