I came through this sentence in Manhattan SC.
Quote:
The tidal forces to which an object falling into a black hole is subjected are
sufficient to tear the object apart.

I think the phrase a block is subjected are looks awkward. Is this sentence correct ?

Yes, it is.
The tidal forces to which an object falling into a black hole is subjected are sufficient to tear the object apart.
The subject is plural so the verb must be plural.

Forces is plural and tidal is an adjective. Thus the correct verb is are.
