Is \(v - w > x - y\)?

(1) \(v > x\) and \(w < y\)
(2) \(w < v\) and \(x < y\)

We can rewrite the question is "Is \(v + y > w + x\)?"

Statement 1:

With v > x and y > w, we can add these inequalities on top of each other to get \(v + y > x + w\). Sufficient.

Statement 2:

Again add the inequalities to get \(w + x < v + y\), sufficient.
