St. 1 - Insufficient
x and y could equal anything
x = 2, y =1 No
x = 1, y = 2 Yes

St. 2 - Insufficient
x= -3, Y = 5 No
x = 5, y = -3 Yes

Together - Insufficient
x= -3, Y = 5 No
x = 5, y = -3 Yes

1. x+y > 0.
x>-y
y>-x
x and y both could be +ve or if one is +ve ther other one is -ve. nsf

2. |x| - |y| < |x-y|
|x-y| >|x| - |y| only if either one is +ve or the other one is -ve. again nsf.
