Between A and B, I like A, though I can't find anything wrong with B as well.

||lsim lacking

||lism lacking

(E) the effect of stress on the heart's output and intellectual vigor

this is not a capability

Actually B and C are very similar gramatically, the only difference is word order (X and Y, Y and X) and the use of 's to indicate posession:

the heart's output under stress

the output of the heart under stress

So, for me, its either one.

OA please.

Surely C. :-D

A: could mean the output of both the heart and the vigor.
B: it seems that under stress modifies 'output'. it should be heart.
C: right. by placing vigor in front, the output is not ambiguous any more.
DE: effects are not capabilities. wrong.

A for me incorrect ellipsis
i.e the output of heart under stress and (the output of)intellectual vigor this distorts the meaning

C clearly specifies two capabilites

Nice one for a change .... when we say X of Y and Z, it becomes ambiguous whether Z is compounded with X or with the "of" construction. "Z and X of Y" is better.
