It took the bus 4 hours to get from town A to town B. What was the average speed of the bus for the trip?

1.In the first 2 hours the bus covered 100 miles
2.The average speed of the bus for the first half of the distance was twice its speed for the second half

Sorry, may I ask this question that I always confused when facing: for statement2 :fist speed = 2 second speed OR 2 first speed = second speed. Thanks!

I got the answer - E

1st stmnt alone => not sufficient - since it does not talk about disstance covered in last 2 hrs.
2nd stmnt alone => not sufficient - since it does not give distance and total time. We can still find the avg speed in terms of 'x' from this, where x = avg speed in second half of the travel
Both stmnt together => not sufficient - since 1. talks about first half in terms of time and 2. talks about 1st half in terms of distance.

cant we use the rate formula? D=R*T

1st half of trip
100=R*2Hours

R=50

2nd half of trip we know was 1/2 the rate of the first half

D=1/2 *50 * 2hours

D=50

total distance traveled is 150
Total hours is 4

150/4 = avg speed
am i totally wrong?
