J = current age of Janet
C = current age of Carol

\(J +25 = C\)

\((J+6)*2 = C + 6\) ---> \(C = 2*J + 6\) , insert in first equation

\(J + 25 = 2*J + 6\)

\(J = 19\)

\(J - 5 = 14\)

Correct answer is B

Janet ................................... Carol

x .......................................... x+25 (Current Age)

x+6 ...................................... x+31 (After 6 yrs)

Given that \(\frac{1}{2} (x+31) = x+6\)

x = 19 = Current age of Janet

5 yrs ago Janet's age = 19-5 = 14

Answer = B

J=C-25

J+6=(C+6)/2
2J+12=C+6
C-2J=6
C-2(C-25)=6
C-2C+50=6
-C=-44
C=44
J=19

5 years ago, J was 14.
