Jeremy’s salary is how much greater than Samantha’s salary?

(1) If Samantha received a 20-percent raise, and Jeremy received a 10-percent raise, the sum of their salaries would be $90,000.
(2) The sum of their salaries is $80,000.

Ans: C
Solution: in the question stem itself, no information is given
1) statement one gives is only one equation 1.2s+1.1j = 90,000
even after the manipulation, nothing can be derived in terms of greater or lesser than other. [Not Sufficient]

2) second statement gives us s+j = 80,000 [Not Sufficient]

TOgether 2 equations and two unknowns [Sufficient]

Let J and S be the salary for Jeremy and Samantha respectively.
We need to find if J- S>0

1. 1.1J+1.2 S = 90000
Not Sufficient since no clue about values of J and S

2. J+S = 80000
Not Sufficient since no clue about values of J and S

1+2
By solving simultaneous equations we get the values of J and S
Sufficient.
