OA is D...

For some reason when I read the sentence it appeared that

Joan of Arc ........ turned the tide ...... by liberating ..... and .... persuaded Charles VII of France to claim his throne.

So I was trying to fix 'persuaded'

???

D is correct.

If this would have been the case, case you mentioned above, then the ||ism should be

turned.........by liberating..... and by persuading....

observe carefully.. if its liberating&persuading then the meaning of the sentence will change.

Turned the Tide of English
a)by liberating
b)by persuaing

So its D
