this looks like D to me... it is parallel:
Joan of Arc, a young Frenchwoman who claimed to be divinely inspired, turned the tide of English victories in her country by liberating the city of Orleans and persuaded Charles VII of France to claim his throne

OA is D...
For some reason when I read the sentence it appeared that
Joan of Arc ........ turned the tide ...... by liberating ..... and .... persuaded Charles VII of France to claim his throne.
So I was trying to fix 'persuaded'
???

D is correct.
If this would have been the case, case you mentioned above, then the ||ism should be
turned.........by liberating..... and by persuading....

Joan of Arc, a young Frenchwoman who claimed to be divinely inspired, turned the tide of English victories in her country by liberating the city of Orleans and she persuaded Charles VII of France to claim his throne.observe carefully.. if its liberating&persuading then the meaning of the sentence will change. Turned the Tide of English a)by liberating b)by persuaing So its D
