Hi there,
My official job title is trainee engineer (pretty similar to management trainee program) but my job function and job grade is just like any other engineers in my company. I think that the title trainee engineer doesn't convey my job responsibility well and I might have a disadvantage compared to peers from other firms who don't use the term trainee with their fresh graduate engineer ( Engineer 1 vs trainee engineer for example).
So is it considered ethical by business school if I use the title engineer in my resume. Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks.

This is a tough question, I would make sure whatever you use it is consistent throughout your application. For example what will your recommenders say in your recommendation. You want to make sure you are being consistent. I do believe there is some flexibility where you can give your job specific title AND a comparable industry title for example Trainee Engineer / Engineer 1 or something like that or you can use your bullet to subtly explain this. But be cautious you do not want to be misleading, lie, or break the honor code for something like this

You don't have to use your in-company official title, but can create a title that is truthfully descriptive of your job if it sounds better (and you should do so). So Engineering Teammember would be great.
