Just bombed the GMAT. Do I still have hope? [#permalink] New post 01 Mar 2011, 07:49
1) Brief description of your full-time work experience
-4 years at a small database marketing consulting firm. Assigned exclusively to a $5B national furniture retail client account. Promoted from analyst, to account manager to analytics manager leading an offshore team in India. designed and facilitated all direct marketing activities for our furniture client. I received a solid recommendation from the CEO of my company.
-7 months at the leading market research consulting firm doing pricing and advertising analysis for big name CPG company.

2) Your GMAT.
-Reeling from a poor performance. 35 Quant/ 34 Verbal = 570. Don't have AWA score yet, but my guess is in the 5 range.

3) College info: The name of the college, your GPA or grade average, your major, year of graduation. For any graduate degrees, please provide the same info. If you grades are low, please indicate if there were extenuating circumstances.
-BA sociology with concentration in research and analysis (including 3 semester of stats) from University of Wisconsin Madison GPA=3.74. Dean's list.
-Sophomore year abroad at Korea University in Seoul South Korea. Extended my stay abroad by two years to live and work in Korea.

4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
-2 years on board of directors for an NGO in Seoul South Korea
-ESL teacher south Korea
-Founded English editing company in Korea catering to university students
-Big brother volunteer
-International working experience as team lead in India (two-2 month trips)

5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.
None

6) Your target programs.
-3rd round at University of Wisconsin Madison AC Nielsen Center for Market Research. My application is a bit rushed because my in-laws are in poor health so I'm trying to expedite my MBA to prepare for move abroad. I'm targeting only one school because of my late start. If it doesn't work this year I'll add more target schools next year and re-take the GMAT.

7) Your post-MBA goal.
-client-side or consulting CPG market research-P&G, Kraft, SC Johnson in Korea

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

To be honest with you, since you've already applied for Madison's round 3, just hope for the best. Don't overthink it as it'll only stress you out. As you mentioned, if things don't work out, you can try again next year and re-take the GMAT. With that GPA and with a 700 on GMAT, you can easily move up the ranking into the top b-schools level.

If you have to apply next year, retake GMAT. You have some good components in your profile and you should not let just a test score spoil it all for you. Atleast give it one more chance. You may want to think about retaking it now as you are closer to the study mode than what you would be one years from now.
