Just finished with my GMAT today :( [#permalink] New post 27 Jul 2009, 11:36
I just wrote my gmat today. I was aiming for a 720+ but ended up with a 690 (Quant-49 & Verbal - 35, yet to receive my essay scores).. I have a little over 4 years of experience as a Software Engineer (the last one year as a team lead), have good scores in my BE and excellent references. I intend to apply for the full time courses in LBS, Oxford(Said Business School), Cambridge(Judge Business school), University of Chicago (Booth) and Cornell (Johnson). What are my odds of getting into any of these schools? I don't think i have the time to write the exam once again..

Everyone in this forum will say that there is no difference between 690 and 720, but I feel that is not correct esp. for geographic locations such as India and China. For Indians bar is +10-20 above school average. I know about LBS and Booth only. Someone might be able to comment on other schools. I am sorry I am not wiriting encouraging words, but this is reality. If you have experience that could differentiate from the rest then even 690 would work :-D

I would say that .. you are in good shape. If you could push your unique feature .. like female etc. you will be in good shape. It also depends on your undergrad GPA .. little bit.

Hi Poojashetti,

I'd say you have a good chance at both Oxbridge schools with this score - but only if you manage to make your application interesting enough. It may be hard to differentiate yourself if you come from very common demographic/background - but then, some people get admits even with what is considered a very typical profile.
Also, try to apply as early as possible, as the schools tend to use later rounds to create more diversity, and so your chances will probably become lower.

Good luck!
