Yesterday, I gave the Kaplan Diagnostic Test 1, which is offered for free on the Kaplan website. I would like to say that the quality of the test was very good and there was no question in the test that I had already done. IR was of average difficulty, Quant was really hard, and Verbal was a bit difficult.
The test went smooth and I was expecting around 630 as the final result but was surprised and finally, happy to see a 720 on the screen.
The split score was
IR - 6
Quant - 98%ile
Verbal - 43%ile
Overall - 720(94%ile)
Firstly, I was surprised to see a 720 on the screen, since the test didn't go that well.
Secondly, I was surprised that there were no scaled scores provided by Kaplan for the Quant and Verbal section, only percentiles were provided.
Next, I tried to convert my Quant and Verbal percentile scores into scaled scores using the newly provided algorithm by GMAT here
https://www.mba.com/india/the-gmat-exam/gmat-exam-scoring/your-score-report/what-percentile-rankings-meanQuant 98%ile = 51
Verbal 43%ile = 27
Combining them should give me an overall score of around 640, but Kaplan provided me with a 720.
I would like to ask Kaplan team if there is an error in the algorithm of a renowned test prep company like Kaplan.
Moreover, if there is a flaw in my thinking and calculating the scores, please let me know.
