Kelley vs Tepper [#permalink] New post 25 Jan 2012, 10:45
Hi,

I have got admits from Indiana Kelley and CMU Tepper.

Tepper has offered me little scholarship while Kelley has offered me half tuition waiver.

Both are really good schools and I am interested in General Management/Not For Profit Consulting post MBA.

Considering the funding available and the financial constraints at my end I can manage Kelley, but I am still skeptical on giving up Tepper because Tepper is so renowned.

Can you kindly advise me on the schools.

Thanks a ton,

Hello deepti387, thanks for your question.

School choice is such a personal decision. Looking at the US News rankings, Tepper is 18 and Kelley is 23, right? If the difference in ranking were more pronounced, it might be an easier decision. But, since they’re relatively close and arguably in the same tier, I will suggest you also consider fit and culture.

Which program has?:
• Resources that best meets your career needs
• A culture that resonates with your personal style
• Students whom you respect, can relate to, and have fun with!

Have you spoken/emailed with many students and alumni from each school?

Best of luck,
Brian

My goodness, that's a tough call. I'd say, given the rankings and the scholarship offers, it's a coin-flip. If I were you I'd go with whichever school you feel most comfortable at because those two cultures are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Also, Tepper has a great reputation in the MBA world as a quanty school, but to the USA as a whole, as great as CMU is, a lot of people have no idea that the school even exists if they aren’t from the east-coast. When I decided to apply to b-schools Carnegie Mellon was the only T-25 school that I had never even heard of and had to look up (imagine my surprised when I learned how good it actually was). Good luck!
