Kellogg application - job stats [#permalink] New post 05 Dec 2005, 06:38
Hi,

I was trying to fill the Kellogg application and I saw that I had to enter the "reason for leaving my previous job". How important is this information? I dont know if it is better to write "personal reasons" or "job dissatisfaction" or "to start a family". The actual reason I had left that company was because I didn't believe in the ethics of the organization anymore, I decided that it is time to take a break and start a family.

I would write that you found you didn't agree with the ethics of the company. That's a lot stronger than the ever ambigious "personal reasons" line.

I never knew that I could say out something like that.

I agree with Omari, and I'll add that "Started a family" is also a very valid reason. Don't worry about anything like adcomms looking at you like you're not serious about your career. Just the opposite... It will help show an additional dimension of you. And it's a much clearer, more valid reason than writing "personal reasons" in your app!

Considering the fact that I have a 2 year career gap after leaving my first job, does it make more sense to put "to start a family" as the reason rather than "I didn't agree with the ethics of the organization".

I think "to start a family" sounds more valid. To be honest, when I read the "ethics" explanation, I partly don't believe it. It sounds like an excuse ofr getting fired or something (I believe you when you say that's not the case). You're proud about starting a family... Tell them!
