Denied.

Am actually feeling quite relieved. I wouldn't have given up Tuck for Kellogg, and am happy that another applicant got into his/her dream school without having to wait for me to make way...

Heartiest Congratulations to all those who made it!!!!!

Cheers,

Oh, and forgot to mention that the admissions director said that they're sending out packets in the mail tomorrow with official details and that we should get the officail acceptance e-mail tonight.

This is my first admit. When I told my boyfriend he said he'd be buying "champagne and lighter fluid". Champagne to celebrate. Lighter fluid for my GMAT books. :D

I'm a huge fan of the 25 word "essay"

I'm possibly in for R2 depending on how R1 goes. Slight chance I'll be in for round 1, but a trip to chicago intime for the interviews would be tough.

What is the best play on submitting P1 for the interview slot? Is it to submit earlier to make sure you don't get waived (i assume getting waived is bad?) Also, could you just mitigate any risk of getting waived by submitting later, but for on campus?

I see two options:
1) Submit this week for a local interview
2) Submit anytime for an on campus interview

If someone can help answer my questions and verify these options, it would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if I should apply now, b/c my promotion can come in any time in the next 2 to 6 weeks; am waiting in case it happens prior to the deadline.

Pearls of wisdom anybody?

It does not matter. Getting waived is not a bad thing. You could submit Part 1 the day the application goes live and still receive an interview waiver. All an interview waiver means is that they currently do not have an alum available to interview you. In order to not hold up the review of your application (Kellogg does not start reading your app until the interview is complete) they waive the interview requirement so they can begin reading your app. If after reading your application they want to know more about you (which is normally the case) they will invite you to interview.

Here's my view on interview waivers. Are they nerve wracking? Yes. However, receiving a waiver is probably the only way to get some indication of how the admissions team is feeling about your application. If you don't receive an interview invite you pretty much know it's game over. However, if you do receive the invite you at least know that your application was strong enough to warrant further review. For people who either interview on campus or do not receive a waiver for the off campus interview they really have no signals as to where they might stand until the decision is rendered. Hope this helps.

Had my interview yesterday (off-campus).

Really friendly, nice guy. Enjoyed the experience. After visiting Kellogg, speaking with several friends who are current students, and meeting this guy, definitely getting the sense that Kellogg's culture is truly distinctive. Seems like an amazing place!

Interview was fairly standard. Walked him thru my resume, spending time on my undergraduate school and on each job I've had ... discussed both why I chose to attend the school/accept the job, as well as highlights of my experience at each place. Same for community activities. Finally, discussed why I want an MBA and why Kellogg. Finished with questions I had for him.

I have yet to submit Part II of the Kellogg app, but essays are done, so will probably submit next week ... then it's just a waiting game!

Oh, I saw above that some people were wondering about dress code. I went full business attire (suit and tie) - can't go wrong that way, even though I'm sure some interviewers wouldn't care if you came in business casual. I personally chose to eliminate any risk and just go full business attire.

Has anyone interviewed on campus yet this year? I'm going on Monday and am curious whether it will be with a member of the adcom or a 2nd year student, the email confirmation says "member of admissions, either staff or student".

You won't know til you get there. Last year I interviewed on campus with a 1st year student. Good luck with your interview!

Yes but take care to not go over in your other essays. The advice floating around is it's ok to go over or under by up to 10% but don't overdo it on all the essays.

Just received the off-campus interviewer's contact details on Friday - It took about 3.5 weeks since I submitted Part 1. Pretty good turnaround by the Admissions office compared with the possible maximum of 8 weeks for off-campus interview arrangement outside of the U.S..

While it is always good to be within word limits, +5% is generally ok. As i have read in several threads, the adcom doesn't really count the total words. They just have an eye for word count by experience. If you think reducing any further will hamper the meaning of the balance 500 words, i'd keep the extra words. Infact i also exceed the leadership essay by 22 words. Rest all i am within word limit.

Thanks machichi and vibhav. I was able to cut down a bit more so it is even less than 5% more now. Also my other essays are within limit so hopefully it would be fine overall :)

Hi,

My recommender has submitted the recommendation, but he did not notice the 250 words limit per question. He has around 1900 words (total), according to him, in his recommendation.
I am sure he might have written a very strong recommendation, but worried if the extra words would effect my chances.
Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi.. I submitted Part I of my application on the 18th of September and then Part II on the 15th of October. I have requested an off-campus interview and still have not received any communication yet.
Is it bad news for me?
