Kellogg vs LBS vs Tuck [#permalink] New post 28 Dec 2011, 21:12
I'm in the fortunate position of having a tough decision to make. I've got admits to Kellogg, LBS, and McCombs and am waiting to hear back from Tuck (Feb 10). I fall into the non-traditional/career changer bucket - was a singer-songwriter and independent consultant in the music industry. Post-MBA I'm leaning toward consulting but would like to leave my options open and look into energy and/or finance (broad strokes I know). I was initially really attracted to LBS because of the international factor and opportunities to work abroad but am somewhat worried about the brand recognition stateside (where my wife and I would like to end up eventually). Any suggestions?

I'm biased but I voted for Kellogg.

I assume you have already decided against McCombs since it was not listed in the topic title. It’s a great school and Austin is a wonderful city, but unless money comes into play or Austin’s music scene really interests you I would not place it on the short list.

I would also leave out LBS since your goal is to eventually work in the U.S. and you have acceptances from two top-notch American schools.

It comes down to Kellogg and Tuck (with your track record I think you have an excellent shot at getting in). Both have excellent reputations with an almost negligible edge to Kellogg. They both also boast strong placement into consulting. I think Kellogg, being a larger school, will be better if you’re not sure of your post-mba goals. You will find students interested in just about everything. But in the end, it comes down to fit. Get a feel for both schools and decide where you’re more comfortable spending two years. I feel this is especially true when talking about Chicago vs. Hanover.

Good luck and I hope to see you at Kellogg next fall!

I'd go with the one with the best name recognition in the state, Kellogg for me. Brand name trumps strenghts in specific field, if you want to keep your options open then Kellogg is your best bet
