Kellogg vs Wharton for a career in technology [#permalink] New post 17 Jun 2012, 01:11
Hi,

I am planning to apply to one of these schools but am confused on which is going to help me more in boosting my career. I am currently working in core technology (Indian, 5 years exp) and want to move to marketing in the same industry. I am not interested in finance.

Kelloggs seems to have an edge when it comes to marketing, its flagship concentration. Also, I observe many tech recruiters in Kellogg but the count is less in Wharton.

Please help.

Regards

Hello Ankit,

Both Wharton and Kellogg are well rounded schools. You can choose any of these for your change in the profile. The best way to look forward for getting into your interest area- Marketing after your MBA, you must pick the right electives apart from the core specialization the school offers.

Getting into both schools is difficult so I would suggest you to apply in the first deadline with a great GMAT score. You must start thinking about how to do the personal branding which will help in bringing value in your application.

You must work on following parameters before you start:
1. Leadership
2. Teamwork
3. Innovation
4. Maturity
apart from your academic credentials, gmat score, extra-curricular and community service experience.

for any help you call me @+919891426135

I wish you all the best.

Best
Rajiv

Thanks a lot Rajiv.

I would indeed take care of the parameters you have asked for personal branding. However, I do not have a great GMAT score. It is 710 which is average for a Indian. As of now, I haven't planned to reappear.
Is this score very low?

For Kellogg and Wharton a 710 would be on the lower end for Indian applicants w/ an engineering/tech background. If the verbal score was low you will want to retake the exam as there will be questions about your English language skills. Hope this helps.
