Hi,
I am very keen on taking an MBA, but I am very confused due to my age factor.I believe that an MBA is a make or break deal - in that if you choose a average school, it wont get you places. The brand name and the alumni are crucial factors when selecting a B-school. But the top 15 B-schools require either a very strong leadership focus or a lot of work exp, both of which I dont have. I have listed my profile below and would like to know whether I have a shot the top 15-20 US Business schools. If so, which ones?
I am planning for a MSF in case I do not get into a top MBA program.
Any other inputs/tips to improve my application would also be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Age: 25
Sex: Female
Undergrad:Top Engineering College in Singapore ( 3.46 gpa out of 4), undergraduate scholar
GMAT: 740
Work Experience
1) Fortune 500 company - 2 years marketing/pricing
Also involved in other extra curricular activities within the company itself (Networking committee, etc)
Goals: I would like to hold a senior business position and use my marketing experience to lay the roadmap for at least a specific subset of the organization, implement processes that improve productivity/efficiency. As a volunteer, also contribute to the social development of the community.
Extra Curricular activities/passion :
-National Debater ( won national awards before)
-
-- I am very passionate about politics through social media - ultimately it would be something I would see myself contributing to post MBA , albeit in a national landscape
You would notice that a) lack of ECA in university - this was made up by my rigorous 1.5 yrs reserach experience during this period. In addition to regular course i pursued an extra curricular research with a cross discipline - professor without any credits.
Similarly, you would also notice my lack of volunteering - as mentioned before, i am very interested in the intellectual development of the community, so i have given free tution classes before( to neighbours who were not very well to do), but these classes are not very often, so I neglect to mention them.
Thanks!
You sound to me like you do stand a chance at the top 15 programs, yes. Your statistics (age, GPA, and GMAT) are in the right ballpark, your debating and involvement in extracurricular activities at work will demonstrate your involvement, and your marketing experience in a Fortune 500 company will contribute to the class. I say go for it!
