We are putting together a Kudos system - you might have noticed that. Yet there is still debate how it should work. Feel free to edit the wikipage and discuss here.

I think one can rise his or her kuda artificially, I mean he can create some new accounts login under that login and add more kudas plus he or she can ask friends to do a favor by clicking on +1 promising the same instead

Affirmative. Only it will take a lot of effort to do by yourself (there's a limit of one Kudos per recipient per hour). Asking friends is easier - if you have friends. We will monitor the system to see if anyone is actually spoofing.

oh yeah, also, mods can add an unlimited amount of kudos for great posts and contributions. So yes, people can spoof the 1 kudos per hour thing (which will seem very suspicious and can be checked), or they can just try to earn kudos from mods for doing good things.

The kudos threshold for certain accesses will be pretty high (more than post counts) anyways, since it's easier to give out Kudos and more than one mod can give you kudos at a time.

Is there a page where one can see who has the most Kudos? or Perhaps who got the most this week?

That page is coming. It will not show who got most Kudos during the week though as Kudos is really lightweight and it does not store transactions and dates. It may make sense to reset everyone's Kudos to zero on the 1st of every month though.

woh! BB the founder! Cool! :)

tino, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to reset the kudos to 0 at the beginning of each month if we're going to use it to determine who gets access to private forum areas. If we're resetting it, that means we need a way to keep track of total kudos or that person will have to gain access by contributing a lot over one month?

Okay okay... It still would be possible if the system worked one way - when you get 500 Kudos, you get listed in Trusted Members, and then you keep being listed there until an moderator kicks you out, no matter how low your Kudos. But that's too complicated I guess...

bb is the founding father! I am having a laugh at this because bb actually complained yesterday that people seem to be scared of him. He asked me to change the admin colors to something less intimidating than red. Maybe it is still too intimidating. Should we choose grey perhaps, to blend into the background?

haha, I'm just surprised to see bb... but good to have you around! :)

Tino, is there a reason you want to reset the kudos? I don't see any benefit from doing that. I think having it be forever cumulative helps the "morale" of members and lets them see who are the very helpful posters and things like that...

BTW, I got a notification for this board, but this link doesn't work for some reason...

5-t57971&p=415272#p415272

did something mess up? I also got the same 404 Not Found for some other threads I got notifications for.

so how does one figure out who's giving one kudos and for which posts? i'm flattered i'm getting any 'kudos' at all, but it would be nice to know what posts other members are finding useful.

It is a good point - it could be a tool for ranking posts as well.

solaris1, very good point, +10! Concerning who's giving out Kudos, I think it's better to keep it anonymous so that people are more likely to do that. If somebody wants to he or she can tell you about giving the points, like I just did. But finding out which posts matter is definitely a great idea! Now you can see the post kudos in brackets (10). Also, check out the 'Best posts and posters' link above.
