LAC To MBA [#permalink] New post 05 Dec 2012, 18:49
I'm a freshman at a top 10 liberal arts college. My dream is to go to a top business school, and yes I know that perhaps I made the wrong choice going to a liberal arts school if I want to go into business and I understand that it might be an uphill battle to get a competitive job coming out of school, but...

What can I do to prepare? Atleast to start out with, what can I be doing this summer to get reasonable work experience? I know that the summer as a rising senior can be really important internship wise and thats when I'll have the most opportunities to get a decent gig, but what about now or this upcoming summer? Internships? Job Shadowing? I'd like to be eventually involved in marketing, tech, or digital media one day so what can I do to start that journey?

Going to a LAC does not preclude you from or put you at a disadvantage for getting an MBA. People getting MBAs all have different backgrounds and perspectives - that's part of what going to business school is about.

While it's still early for you to think of business school, you should use the time while you're still in college to explore different career paths. If you think you want to go into marketing, try to get a marketing internship and see if you like it. College is a time to explore and try new things - figure out what you like and don't like. Your.career path and potential MBA will follow from that.
