Laptop for business School? Any preference

Can the students already in business school or the admitted students please help me out with choosing a laptop for business school.
I know I will need a new machine, but I am not sure of the Specs. I know that I wont need a high power machine that gamers or graphic designers use. Something < $1000 is a price range I am going for.
1. Do the students already in business school have a preference?
2. Have the admitted students given a thought to this and brought a machine already? If so, what machine and what were your considerations in buying that machine.
3. If I buy a laptop with Webcam, am I allowed to video capture the lecture (at Chicago GSB?) or will I breaking some privacy and ethics rules?
4. Where would I find a good price? BestBuy, CircuitCity, Amazon ??
I am partial towards XP system (not a big fan of Vista yet). So, I have been looking at Dell Vostro systems. This are small business laptops which come with 17 in () screens and good configuration for < $900.
So..... any thoughts, suggestions, helpful ideas?
