LBS vs. American Schools [#permalink] New post 20 Mar 2010, 15:38
I'm currently applying to LBS and I'd like to know what people think about LBS compared to American schools? In terms of ranking the program, how would you rank the school if you were ranking it with American schools? Also, what American schools is LBS on par with in terms of ease/difficulty of being admitted?

Hi,

I have the same question as the original poster. Does anyone have any feedback or comments?

Thanks

Hi :-D

LBS definitely offers a different value proposition than U.S. schools but I'd like to clarify some of your thoughts. Firstly, if you're set on building a U.S. network, LBS is probably not the ideal choice as it offers a more European and international network and its brand is not as strong within the U.S. However, I definitely don't think the quality of the education is less than top U.S. schools. Most of the students I know who've gone on exchange to Wharton, etc. find little difference and many of our faculty previously taught at those schools. The only exception I can think of is from students who've done more quant courses on exchange at Booth. Furthermore, I think the more international education here (in terms of case work, background of students, etc.) is of high value. The students are also of high calibre and have been cleaning up at international competitions with the top U.S. schools ever since I arrived, whether in private equity, marketing, or whatever. In terms of atmosphere, LBS is great and more tight-knit than most urban U.S. schools because most of the students come from farther away and rely on the LBS community. For to the network in your local market in the Middle East, only you can judge. Hope this helps.
