Linda:
I am in the process of getting my resume created from a "resume professional". I've looked at resumes (from resume books) of students graduating from Top 10 schools (hbs, columbia, etc, etc). However, none of the schools provide any insight into the resumes of incoming students.....For example, Should the length of the resume of a prospective student be exactly 1 page? What is your take?

I have 4.5 years of experience.....Can my resume exceed 1 page (i'm thinking 2 pages for my resume) or it is a "rule of thumb" that the length of the resume of a prospective student be one and only one page?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

One fact to keep in mind is that your resume is being submitted to an academic institution and not an employer. Thus, while the resume is often used as a reference tool for important information that might not be obvious on the school's application it does not have the same role it carries in the business sector. The contents of the resume are still important, of course, but the exact length is probably not a crucial issue for most app. readers.

The length of the resume should vary with the level of detail provided by the application and the nature of the information you wish to convey. Resumes can be a valuable way of highlighting some information that might be overlooked on the application such as professional certifications.

Unless the school says otherwise, it can go onto a second page.

Please see "Aligning Your Résumé with Your MBA Application Essays"

Good luck!
