Hello,

I just gave my GMAT, and succeeded in royally screwing it up.
The lowest score I got on the mocks was around 720-710, and I got a 680 on the actual test.
Any possible explanation?
BTW, when I was doing the test, I thought I was doing it pretty well, especially the quant part, which ended up being worse than the verbal section, which was actually never the case in my mock tests.
Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks!

if you have time/energy for retake - go for it. This time focus more on DS questions as these are the main culprits for low score.

Hi Gurpreethsingh,
Can you please elaborate more anout DS pitfall? I think my week point is DS. When i do my practice questions from OG13, my hit rate is around 67% only :(. Do you have any strategy to suggest. Or any other pointers from the forum. Thanks!

Well.... you freak out on the real test, plus there is a margin of error of about 40 points (you can take 2 tests in a row and score as much as 40 points higher/lower). It is not quite precise science. We sometimes do better/worse under pressure (usually worse) as we take the real test in a very different environment than you have taken your practice tests. That would be my explanation.

I don't think retaking will guarantee a better score, but you may score 720 (per logic above), though you may score 640 just as well ;)

The key is to solve many questions and analyze what to do in similar questions. I think best way is to follow BUNUEL and his quant questions/replies. Other way is to buy manhattan advance gmat quant book that has a special section of DS and is quite good.
