Chiragr.. I agree with you..
I think my approach is completely #%@ up.

I was thinking this is Tense issue & focussed on after & had been..

But the sentence A looks fine now when I know the answer.

A. Less than 35 years after the release of African Honeybees outside Sao Paulo, Brazil,
B. In less than 35 years since releasing African Honeybees outside Sao Paulo, Brazil, -> tense problem
C. In less than the 35 years since African Honeybees had been released outside Sao Paulo, Brazil, -> to indicate duration from particular time, we use since. CORRECT!
D. It took less than 35 years from the release of African Honeybees outside Sao Paulo, Brazil, when
E. It took less than the 35 years after the time that African Honeybees were released outside Sao Paulo, Brazil, and then -> verbose

My answer is B.

D, E are out as "It" has no reference.
I do not prefer C, as it is in passive voice and using "had been". It is not following proper verb for event sequence.

Between A and B, B is better in meaning.

OA is A.

C would have been correct if were released had been used instead of had been released. I am not sure how to grammatically explain this though. Vivek123, would you care to explain?
