Letters of Rec Question [#permalink]

As most schools typically require 2 letters of recommendation, I am wondering what your thoughts are on my situation.
I have already talked to a manager at my old consulting company (worked there for 1.5 years) who is happy to give me a letter of rec. However, I don't know if I can go to my current manager at my new job and ask him for a recommendation. The reason being that I don't think the recommendation will match with the overall story that I am trying to convey to B-schools. If I ask my current manager, he will ask me what I want to do after, and I feel as though I am obligated to tell him that I want to return to the company in a more senior role...If i do this, he will write me a letter of recommendation saying these things - However, my B-school essays will be completely different (they will be about switching careers).
Is it pertinent that I have a letter of rec from my current manager?

If you feel uncomfortable about asking your current boss, then it's fine asking someone else. It's not uncommon. Just state that you used someone else because you're uncomfortable asking your current boss. _________________
