is B the answer....LIKE should NOt be used as a conjunction or to introduce a clause...

A is flawed...if "did" is used, explaining his work is not correct.
C , D ..."As" is incorrect here

This is a Comparison problem. We know it is because of the word like and as. Since we are comparing someone/something with Fernand Braudel, it will be most likely a person (i.e. Arnold Toynbee), and so we will use the word like rather than as. The did in A is superfluous, so the correct answer is B
