Here the comparison is between Bob and his contemporaries

• Like many of his contemporaries did, Bob Dylan wrote songs - like, comparison between Bob and songs of the contemporaries

Unclear pronoun error. 'he' does not necessarily mean Bob in option E.

Ex. As did many of Bob's contemporaries, Peter wrote songs.

I am not sure why the OA is D. I think we compare the military of Japan and the US, not their shoulders. I choosed "that of Japan".

Nevertheless, the United States should be singular. So C is wrong.
