Nice question!

A is wrong because of the problem in the first half of the sentence. The sandpipers is plural but the main verb here "is". They don't match.

The second point is the parallelism. Parallelism rules out C, D and E. Straight away!

Good one I would say. Initially I was not able to make out but later realized that it's comparing the grassy fields with the bird.

B it is.

The correct answer is B as it correctly compares the two nouns (the grassy fields and the bird itself ). Correct parallelism.
