Logging industry official: Harvesting trees from old-growth forests for use in manufacture can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, since when large old trees die in the forest they decompose, releasing their stored carbon dioxide. Harvesting old-growth forests would, moreover, make room for rapidly growing young trees, which absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than do trees in old-growth forests.

I'll go with C

The stem says that " harvesting trees from old growth forests will reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere" and the reasoning is - "the young trees will have more capacity to absorb CO2 than do the old trees"

C counters the above fact by saying that " the young trees have less than half of the amount of CO2 that old trees have"

Hence C weakens the argument

I will aldo go For C. B and D lures us by contadicting the evidence but C attacks the conclusion.

The final sentence is just another premise helps to reach to the argument: Harvesting old-growth forests would, moreover, make room for rapidly growing young trees, which absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than do trees in old-growth forests --> help to emphasize the argument that Harvesting trees from old-growth forests for use in manufacture can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere

I agree with B on this.

It directly counter the conclusion by saying that the products of that manufacturing process decompose rapidly (and hence releasing CO2) so harvesting the trees for manufacturing is not a good idea.
