Hi guys and girls,
If you are an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) applicant to London Business School, please feel free to reach out to the "Out in Business" club members (clubs.london.edu/oib/contact-us/).
LBS is all about diversity and if you have any questions on what it's like to be an LGBT MBA student, one of us would be happy to talk to you and address any questions/concerns you might have.
Best, Out in Business Club

Just got the contact info and details on the interview! Does anyone have any insights as to what the 5 minutes presentation would be like? My position on a world issue? A case study of some sort?

There seem to be quite a few questions related to the 5-min presentation, so I can provide some guidance based on my interview. The interviewer has a choice of 5-6 topics of which he/she will select one and hand over to you to read and prepare a small presentation. The interviewer will generally leave you alone for a few minutes to prep for it. From what I understand, the intent is to see how well the applicant can put together a structured response to the given topic/situation, add examples from their knowledge/experience and orally present it in a few minutes. Don’t worry too much about it – the topics are not difficult. I cannot reveal the topics and I do not know all the topics either, but they could be variations of recent world issues or a business situation.

Thanks totontogmat! could you clarify if the topics come with elaborate background information or is it just a short topic eg: EU crisis? What is someone is completely unaware of the topic (Like i read this topic of UN passports.. which by itself i have no clue about!)

If any body can share their interview experience, I would greatly appreciate it. Particularly interested in the LBS case question, format, answer expectations etc.

Can somebody elaborate on that specifically? what you described is pretty much it. You are given a topic that the interviewer has chosen and you need to pick a side and defend it in a presentation. if you look on the ClearAdmit Wiki, you'll find some mentions of past topics, but in my opinion there's really no way to prepare for it except by just being informed (e.g., reading the paper, paying attention to the news, developing your public speaking skills, etc.)

If you are with a lower level people, technical people, 'frog in the well', etc. they will expect so called hard data. These people can not see much beyond what is shown to them. And their arrogance make them believe that their version is the only truth!! On the contrary, if you are with matured senior level people, they will look at your concept and fundamental knowledge. They are least bothered about what is the NASDAQ today, but they will more look into links between some event at Apple and change in NASDAQ. How you explain, co-relate and argue, basically your intelligence, fundamental knowledge, conceptual knowledge, etc. It is different levels all together. Second category has the capability to seamlessly move between first and second category .... but the first category can not understand the second category. In an interviews, you have to very quickly identify which category the interviewer falls and you have to tune your frequency accordingly. If you fail to identify that, then you are doomed. If the interviewer does not fall in any of the category (i.e. completely dumb!) then also you are gone!!

It is kind of old, but my guess is that the % of R3 and R4 admits (about only 20% of total admits) is the same.

Quote: I think another relevant statistic would also be the number of applicants in R3...Well trusting my gut that many applicants have shied away (or made a wise decision) from R3 , I have taken the gamble of applying in R3 at LBS. Anyone else joinng me in this round I threw mine in last night. Fingers crossed!

id imagine it gets tougher depending on where youre from -- perhaps asia, india, and UK/continental europe are harder to fill but the Americas and Africa have more slots available?

Pretty much summarizes my interview with an Alum recently. I am one of the more seasoned applicants with 5+ years of experience and extensive international background. I had looked up the his linked in profile, and he had cumulative work exp of about 9~10 years of work experience, so I kind of expected the interviewer to be more seasoned/mature. The interviewer continued to refer to me as "you finance people" time and time again, although I reminded the interviewer that there are a variety of different types "finance" jobs, and honestly I would expect someone who has an MBA or has even worked in business to be able to differentiate. There was no Walk through of my Resume or any questions about my background or experiences. Then asked why LBS and what challenges do I perceive - and so I was like well its a well rounded school, and you meet people from all over and I look forward to working in that scenario etc etc. to which she concluded LBS IS A FINANCE SCHOOL. SINCE WHEN IS LBS A FINANCE SCHOOL!?!??! LSE sure.. LBS? LBS sends its people all over, which is why I liked it so much. Then the interviewer went on to say well 1/3rd of the class goes to finance... YES TRUE but the other 1/3rd goes to consulting, and 1/5th goes to FMCG, given that it is a school in the financial HUB of EU ofcourse it is finance heavy, but I wouldn't call it a Finance school like how NYU or Booth is a finance school. The presentation question was really very general, if you are aware geneally of what happens, you will be able to comment. In this too she chose a topic related to his field. Clearly it was important for the person to feel like he is smarter than "us finance people" or something. I also answered the question directly, but as you can already guess by now, the person "DISAGREED". The whole thing was awkward, with awkward pauses I doubt I am going to hear back from LBS at this point. I am just surprised, because EVERYONE I have met so far, from AdCom, to Current Students to Alum, to recent admits, to other people who have been invited to interview, they have all been so smart, fun and simply amazing!! Apologies for the rant. This is no way to discourage others from applying to this wonderful school. This whole process gave me no additional insight into the school, what a waste of $280 . I hope everyone else has better luck with this process.

Does anybody have any experience requesting LBS to provide a decision earlier than the published date? I need to take a decision about INSEAD sooner than later and was wondering if there is anyway to know about my LBS status early.
