Looking for information about working in Singapore. [#permalink] New post 29 Jan 2009, 17:11
I thought this might be the most appropriate forum so does anyone have some links or advice about learning more about living/doing business in Singapore. I have done some basic research about the country and I am simply eager to learn more about what life would be like as an American living in Singapore. Any suggestions, direction, or advice would be great.

Well, I'd like to ask how easy/difficult it is for a non-Asian foreigner to find a job in Singapore? Is the legislation restrictive? how much easier does it get if you are, say, an INSEAD student at the Singapore campus?

Not restrictive at all, Singapore was one of the options for me. Since you are an American, Americans are the largest raatio of expats in Singapore, the biggest international school there is an American one. The main issue at the moment is that singapores largest exports go to the USA, therefore they are struggling at the moment.

To add a small anecdote to togafoot's post, I'm on a consulting assignment out here in northern Australia and I work with a lot of my client's suppliers and engineering contractors that are based out of Singapore. Most of the guys I work with are British and American -- and they also say that the expat communities for both are pretty strong.

Having been there many times as well, I would agree that it should not be an issue. I think the main reason it may be more difficult to obtain jobs in Hong Kong and other business centers in Asia is because of the preference sometimes for local language skills, which isn't as applicable in Singapore.
