LOR Question - Help Appreciated [#permalink] New post 07 Aug 2012, 19:41
Hello,

I am currently applying to programs, and I recently switch groups within my current firm. I was previously in a Big 4 audit role, but have recently switched to the consulting arm as of last month. For my letters of rec, I do not plan on getting a letter of rec from a consulting supervisor because 1) I have been the role for only a few weeks and 2) It will likely not be taken well by management.

Is it ok to have both of my LOR's from audit supervisors since they are still with my current firm, and will these be considered 'current supervisors? Or do you think I need to request one from a consulting supervisor in my new role? Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

The audit guys are fine as recs. In fact, adcoms will prefer those guys anyhow, since they want folks who have worked with you for longer than one year.

However, you should state in an optional essay (just one sentence is fine) that you're not getting a rec from your current supervisor since he/she has only worked with you for a few weeks, and as such your previous supervisors who have worked with you much longer are in a better position to evaluate your growth and performance.
