Lou observes that if flight 409 is canceled, then the manager could not possibly arrive in time for the meeting. But flight 409 was not canceled. Therefore, Lou concludes, the manager will certainly be on time. Evelyn replies that even if Lou's premises are true, his argument is fallacious. And therefore, she adds, the manager will not arrive on time after all.

Which of the following is the strongest thing that we can properly say about this discussion?

A) Evelyn is mistaken in thinking Lou's argument to be fallacious, and so her own conclusion is unwarranted.

B) Evelyn is right about Lou's argument, but nevertheless her own conclusion is unwarranted.

C) Since Evelyn is right about Lou's argument, her own conclusion is well-supported.

D) Since Evelyn is mistaken about Lou's argument, her own conclusion must be false.

E) Evelyn is right about Lou's argument, but nevertheless her own conclusion is false.

We can see that certainly Evelyn's argument is false, coz he says that the manager will certainly be on time. So between B and E, B makes sense.

B

X - Flight Cancelled
Y - Manager Late

Lou says If X then Y. Because its NOT X so Y will NOT happen. But this is not true. We can say if NOT Y then NOT X. It means Lou is wrong.

Evelyn is right about the Lou's argument but his own conclusion is also not warranted.

Only B and E stand.
But B is the winner.

Lou's argument is definetly fallacious, but to state that evelyn's conclusion is false will also be unwarranted. The manger could be on time.

Its safe to say that evelyn's conclusion is at most unwarranted.

I agree with B.

Out of B & E. B is the best answer.

I got confused between "unwarranted" and "false". Can someone clarify?

I have narrowed it down to B and E lou argumentation is weak there could be other causes that would lead the manager to be late so evelyn is right that lou argumentation is weak and we could properly find those assertions only in answear B and E looking then at this 2 answear clooser we could notice that E is to strong then the right answear should be B
