Low awa(4), what to do? [#permalink]
02 Dec 2009, 03:49
Dear frens, I took gmat a week ago and got my awa score today, got very disappointed to see 4 in AWA. I did not prepare much for AWA as i prepared only for 15 days for GMAT. I scored 710 in GMAT with 51 in Q, 34 in V. I am looking for good B schools under 20s. My low scores in V and AWA are going to raise red flags. Please suggest me should i apply with this score as retaking the gmat would be a difficult task for me considering my busy job schedule. Currently i am working with an oil field service company and have total of 2 yrs of experience. I graduated from IITD and have a decent academic record.

Most schools do not care about AWA. and even then I believe 4.0 is the lowest acceptable score they will take. Generally people on the forums say that as long as you have strong application essays, it doesn't matter AWA. Relax. Great Q score btw.

if i were you, i would be more worried about the verbal score as opposed to the AWA. as was posted above, schools rarely give much weight to the AWA. With that being said, your overall score is fine for T20 schools. The unfortunate reality is that it is right in the mix with many from your demographic (indian male engineer). a higher verbal score would have allowed you to stand out. at the same time, i don't think your verbal score will keep you out of a T20 school. just make sure your essays are coherent, engaging, and most of all grammatically correct. i think you should be fine if you do this
