Low GPA/750 GMAT/ Quality Work Exp. Plz evaluate me [#permalink] New post 27 May 2011, 23:46
Hi
Am from India. am aiming for 2012 fall intake. can anyone advise me if i can still apply to the following Universities with my score.

Bachelors Degree - Bachelors in Business Management from Christ College, Bangalore University, India
Bachelors Degree score - 57%
GMAT - 750
TOEFL - 116
Work Ex - 5 yrs in family business.

My bachelors degree score is low and is only 57%. Does my GMAT and TOEFL score and my work experience makes my application strong if I my Essays and LOR are strong. ?
Can i submit my application to the following B-Schools with this low Bachelors score?

-Texas A&M Uni (Mays)
-Duke Uni (Fuqua)
-Uni of Rochestor (Simon)

Any suggestion for other B-Schools

Thanks in advance

Expert's post
Hi there,

First, let me apologize for the delayed response. I did not see that there was a series of posts pushed down to a second page. We must be getting popular:)

As for your inquiry, I think you should be okay at those programs. Your GPA appears to be pretty low, but do you have a context for how low? What was your percentile?

I think the biggest thing for you is going to be focusing on showcasing maturity and discipline in your work. You need the "when the lightbulb came on" story so that the reader doesn't doubt your ability to buckle down and do the work. Many successful MBA candidates have lower GPAs and can offset it with really strong thematic writing in the essays.

Also, this is going to be a bit of a no-brainer, but avoid programs with high average GPAs (because they prize that stat) and also programs that are extremely small (because it is harder to absorb a low mark).

Hope that helps!

Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti
